The two products we’re going to demo and review in this post are the Chris Christensen White on White shampoo and the Happy Hoodie. I’d heard about both in online forums where lots of pro groomers hang out, so I was excited to give them a try.
We recently had a family photoshoot and I knew that Chloe was going to need a really good bath the day before so she could look her absolute best.
Now, she hadn’t been bathed in about a month, so she was in extra need of a good bath anyway. But knowing that the photoshoot was coming up, I really wanted to try some products during her bath time to see if they live up to all the hype.
Let’s get into the video below where we will demo and give our thoughts on the products. Be sure to watch so you can follow along!
Chris Christensen White on White Shampoo
The Chris Christensen White on White shampoo is always one that is recommended by groomers to Doodle owners. It is a whitening shampoo touting that it “gets the yellow out.” Its effects are probably most drastic on whiter doodles, like Chloe, but it can be used on any coat color.
Chris Christensen White on White Shampoo for Pets
The shampoo is typically recommended for bathing the beard and areas around the mouth and eyes to get the yellow and brown staining out.
Per Chris Christensen’s website:
- White on White is an optic intensifying treatment within a shampoo, removing all yellow stains with a lustrous sheen on darker colors.
- It contains no bleaching agents, harsh chemicals, or softening agents.
- It neutralizes unwanted stains that cleansing does not remove.
- And finally, it lasts up to 4 weeks and will not rub off on hands or clothing.
I had no idea that the shampoo was dark purple, so I definitely was not expecting that! I am not sure why it’s this color. But one benefit of it is that you can clearly see where you’ve applied and lathered the shampoo, especially on a white dog.
Directions for Use
The directions state to shampoo your dog first before using White on White, which I did not do. It also tells first time users to do a spot test in an inconspicuous area of the coat before applying all over, which I also did not do… Oops!
Apply the Chris Christensen White on White shampoo directly to the coat and “DO NOT DILUTE.” Work it into a lather, massaging the product into the coat.
You can let it sit for up to 10 minutes, depending on the “porosity and texture” of the coat. I just let it sit on Chloe for the duration it took me to lather it all over her body, so at least a few minutes in most areas.
Does Chris Christensen White on White Shampoo Work?
As with most shampoos, I could tell immediately upon rinsing that Chloe was much cleaner and whiter. But it actually wasn’t until the next morning that I fully saw how well the product worked to brighten Chloe’s coat. Here is a before and after picture to compare:
I feel that it definitely helped to enhance Chloe’s golden highlights. How beautiful does she look in the after photo!
Happy Hoodie
Next I’ll talk about the Happy Hoodie. The Happy Hoodie is a thick sleeve that slides over a dog’s face and head to secure and cover the ears. The purpose of it is to prevent the dog from being able to clearly hear loud noises.
Happy Hoodie
I saw it being recommended by pro groomers to people whose dogs specifically hate being blow dried. So, I really wanted to give this a try and see if it could help lessen Chloe’s blow dryer anxiety.
After the bath, we moved on to blow drying. I was looking forward to seeing if the Happy Hoodie would work.
Directions for Use
The thing is really thick and you have to stretch it a bit to get it on. But once it’s on, it’s really snug on her head.
Make sure the ears are secured down naturally where the ears aren’t folded or kinked under the hoodie.
Does the Happy Hoodie Work?
Chloe didn’t seem to mind. In fact, it almost seemed like she was immediately calmer.
I can say that without the Happy Hoodie, Chloe previously would not hold still during blow drying, especially if the air was hitting anywhere near her head. As you can see in the video above, Chloe is not really affected by the blow dryer even as I move the air up towards her neck.
Overall, I am impressed by both these products. However, I should note that my experience with whitening shampoos is pretty limited, so I can’t really compare White on White to anything else. Also, the shampoo is pretty pricey. Right now, a 16 oz. bottle is listed at $22 on Amazon, which is at least a few dollars more than similar products.
Also, the Happy Hoodie comes in a 2-pack. One is a size small and one is a large. Chloe can only fit into the large hoodie, so the smaller one is basically useless to us.
So there you have it! Let us know in the comments below if you’ve ever used White on White or the Happy Hoodie and what you think!
