Cavapoo Size Predictions: How Big Is A Full Grown Cavapoo?
Cavapoo a.k.a Cavadoodle or Cavoodle is the sweetest little hybrid mix of Poodle and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. This pup has inherited the best traits from both parents – their playful and outgoing nature, loving personality, and adorable size. This makes the Cavapoo a great furbaby to almost any household.
But if you’re thinking about adopting one, you’ve probably been wondering – how big does a Cavapoo get?
Cavapoos are considered small sized dogs. Their weight can range anywhere between 9 to 25 pounds, and their height from 9 to 14 inches. Cavapoos usually come in two sizes – mini and toy. Mini Cavapoos are a mix between Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and a Mini Poodles. Toy Cavapoos are a cross between a Cavalier and a Toy Poodle.
As the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a smaller dog, they aren’t usually mixed with a Standard Poodle. Therefore, we don’t have the typical Standard Cavapoo. However, some breeders do call Mini Cavapoos “Standard” or “Medium”, as they are bigger than the Toy version.
Let’s now have a look at the full-grown sizes of Toy and Mini Cavapoos:
Toy Cavapoo | Mini Cavapoo
Weight | 7-13 pounds | 13-25 pounds |
Height* | 9-12 inches | 12-16 inches |
Age at Full-Grown | 7.5-11 months | 11-13 months |
So how can you predict how big your Cavapoo puppy will get? A general rule of thumb is to look at their parents, as the size of the parents greatly affects your puppy’s full-grown size. Additionally, female Cavapoos can be slightly smaller than male pups once fully grown. Although the difference isn’t significant, it’s something to keep in mind.
F1 vs F1b vs F2b Cavapoo
As with any Doodle, Cavapoo’s size can also be predicted by their generation. To understand this better, let’s have a look at the different Cavapoo generations:
1st Parent | 2nd Parent | % Cavalier King Charles Spaniel* | % Poodle*
F1 Cavapoo (first-generation) | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Poodle | 50% | 50% |
F1B Cavapoo (first-generation backcross) | F1 Cavapoo | Poodle | 25% | 75% |
F1BB Cavapoo (first-generation backcross backcross) | F1B Cavapoo | Poodle | 12.5% | 87.5% |
F2 Cavapoo (second-generation) | F1 Cavapoo | F1 Cavapoo | 50% | 50% |
F2B Cavapoo (second-generation backcross) | F1 Cavapoo | F1B Cavapoo | 37.5% | 62.5% |
F2B Cavapoo (alternate cross) | F2 Cavapoo | Poodle | 25% | 75% |
F3 / Multigen Cavapoo | F1B Cavapoo or higher | F1B Cavapoo or higher | Varies | Varies |

With each generation, we can achieve more control over a Cavapoo’s size and other characteristics, such as their coat type and appearance. For instance, if a breeder’s goal is to achieve a smaller Toy Cavapoo, they can breed an F1b Cavapoo that has a Cavapoo parent and a Toy Poodle parent.
Cavapoo Size Charts & Growth Patterns
As full-grown Cavapoos are on the smaller size, they tend to reach their full size sooner than some larger Doodles. Usually, they will do the fastest growing up until they reach half of their adult size. After that, the growth slows down, and usually stops around the time they turn one year old. Depending on their estimated size, this can be either a bit sooner, or later.
We’ve created an interactive Doodle puppy growth calculator to make things a bit easier for all Doodle owners. If you’re currently raising a Cavapoo puppy, make sure to try out our Cavapoo size chart and puppy growth calculator to predict their full-grown size!

Mini Cavapoos
The Miniature Cavapoo is a mix between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Miniature Poodle. A Mini Cavapoo’s full-grown size ranges around 13 to 25 pounds in weight, and 12 to 16 inches in height.
Mini Cavapoos usually reach half of their adult size around 3.5 to 5 months of age. At around 11 to 13 months old, they will reach their full size.

Toy Cavapoo

Generally, Toy Cavapoos reach half of their adult weight at around 3.5 months old, and their full adult size around 7.5-11 months of age.
To predict your Toy Cavapoo’s size, you can use this simple formula:
Additionally, you also might have heard about the Teacup Cavapoo. Often, many breeders call their toy pups Teacup Cavapoos. However, please keep in mind that puppy mills and irresponsible breeders use unethical practices to produce very small Cavapoos.
For instance, unethical breeders use the smallest puppies from a litter – the runts – to breed Teacup Cavapoos. Sadly, runts typically already suffer from health problems, and breeding new babies from unhealthy dogs usually affects the puppies, as well.
How Big Is A Full-Grown Cavapoo?
A full-grown Cavapoo can weigh anywhere from 9 to 25 pounds, and stand at around 9 to 16 inches tall. Cavapoos usually reach their full-grown size by the time they’re 12 months old. Toy Cavapoos tend to reach their adult size around 7.5 to 11 months of age. Miniature Cavapoos reach their full size around 11 to 13 months old.
Is A Cavapoo A Small Or Medium Dog?
Overall, the Cavapoo is regarded as a small hybrid breed dog. However, as we have both Toy and Mini Cavapoos, they can be categorized as either toy, small, or mini/medium sized dogs. Consequently, Toy Cavapoos are smaller and reach their full size sooner than Mini Cavapoos.

I am really upset with my breeder. The pup’s parents are 12 lbs and 8 lbs. I purchased what I was told would be a Cavapoo at 15 lbs. Well she is almost 7 months and now 15 lbs. She was 9.8 lbs at 18 weeks so I am hoping that means she will still be less than 20 lbs. We had plans to travel and other things that now because dog is bigger we can not. I stressed with breeder my concerns before purchase. In my mind I paid for something I did not get!
