Are you curious about the size and growth patterns of Cavapoochons? Knowing their expected size and average growth patterns is essential if you’re considering adopting one. That’s why we’ve put together this guide to the Cavapoochon size chart and growth patterns – so read on to learn more about this adorable pooch!

A Cavapoochon is a hybrid cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Bichon Frise, and a Poodle. However, don’t confuse these triple hybrid Doods with Cavapoos or Cavachons – the former is a cross between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle, whereas the latter is an adorable Cavalier-Bichon Frise mix.

This delightful Dood has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its beautiful, low-shedding coat, friendly disposition, and intelligence. The Cavapoochon is the perfect mix of their parent breeds – they typically maintain the alertness and energy of the Spaniel combined with the gentle patience and loving nature of the Bichon Frise. They are highly trainable and respond well to positive reinforcement. After all, they have the highly intelligent Poodle as one of their parents!

Cavapoochon Size Predictions: How Big Does A Cavapoochon Get?

So, if you’re keen on adopting this precious Dood or already have one at home, you might be wondering about the Cavapoochon’s size and growth patterns. Needless to say, we can gain quite a good idea of the Cavapoochon’s full-grown size by looking at their parents.

Both the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frise are small-sized dogs. Cavaliers usually weigh around 13 to 18 pounds as adults, with an average height of 12 to 13 inches when measured at the shoulder. Similarly, the Bichon Frise tends to weigh between 12 and 18 pounds and their height will range between 9.5 and 11.5 inches at the shoulder.

Poodles, on the other hand, come in three sizes – Toy, Miniature, and Standard. For the Cavapoochon mix, breeders will almost always use either Toy or Miniature Poodles, as they’re similar in size to Cavaliers and Bichon Frise (or even Cavachons). Toy Poodles tend to weigh between 4 and 12 pounds and only grow up to 10 inches tall. Meanwhile, Miniature Poodles are slightly larger and heavier, with an average height of 10 to 15 inches, and they typically weigh between 10 and 20 pounds once fully-grown.

Size Predictions For Standard & Mini Cavapoochon

Now that we understand more about their heritage, it’s time we take a look at the average Cavapoochon size predictions for Mini and Standard Cavapoochons:

Mini CavapoochonStandard Cavapoochon
Weight12-15 pounds15-20 pounds
HeightUp to 10 inches10-14 inches
When Full-Grown?7.5-11 months11-13 months
*A dog’s height is measured from the withers, which is the highest part of their shoulder blades.

As we learned from the Cavapoochon size chart above, these pups usually weigh anywhere from 12 pounds and up to 20 pounds once fully grown. Their typical height ranges between 9 and 14 inches. The size of a Cavapoochon puppy is most often influenced by the size of the Poodle used in the mix. For instance, if a breeder produces litters with Toy Poodles, we can expect these pups to fall on the lower end of the scale. Likewise, if a Miniature Poodle is used in the mix, the Cavapoochon pups will also be slightly larger.

Since the Cavapoochon is one of the newer Poodle mixes, there aren’t exact size categories set in place for them just yet. What’s more, some breeders may also refer to the Mini Cavapoochon as Toy Cavapoochon, as they fall within the toy-sized breed category. Similarly, Standard Cavapoochons may sometimes be referred to as Mini Cavapoochons, as their weight does fall within the mini-sized dog breed category.

How Generation Can Affect The Cavapoochon’s Full-Grown Size

With hybrid breeds like the Cavapoochon (or other Poodle mixes), we must also take into account their generation. A Doodle’s generation tells us how a litter of puppies was bred and how much of their genetic makeup roughly consists of each of the parental breeds. Now, keep in mind that these are very *rough* estimates. However, they do help us understand and guesstimate the potential traits that the puppies will inherit, including their size.

Another thing to mention is that with triple hybrid breeds like the Cavapoochon, the generations don’t exactly work the same way as with regular Poodle mixes. That’s because this crossbreed already requires one hybrid breed parent, at least, which makes the Cavapoochon a second-generation or later.

Here’s an example of the possible Cavapoochon generations when a breeder crosses a Cavachon to a Poodle:

1st Parent2nd Parent% Cavalier King Charles Spaniel*%Bichon Frise*% Poodle*
F2 Cavapoochon (second-generation)F1 CavachonPoodle25%25%50%
F2B Cavapoochon (second-generation backcross)F2 CavapoochonPoodle12.5%12.5%75%
F3 / Multigen CavapoochonF2 Cavapoochon or higherF2 Cavapoochon or higherVariesVariesVaries

*These are generic calculations only – genetics are rarely mathematically accurate.

So, as you can tell, there’s quite a lot of room for variety when producing Cavapoochon puppies. For instance, if an F2 Cavapoochon is bred back to a Miniature Poodle, we can expect the litter of F2b Cavapoochons to take more after the Poodle parent, as they have roughly 75% Poodle in their genetic makeup. Naturally, this will also reflect in their size, but also other traits and characteristics.

Cavapoochon Size Charts & Growth Patterns

Based on the observed dog growth patterns, we can expect the Cavapoochon to grow fastest in the first 50% of their adult weight. For larger dogs, this usually happens around the 6 month mark. However, as the Cavapoochon is a small-sized breed, we can expect these pups to reach that milestone a bit sooner than that. After reaching half their adult weight, their growth will start to gradually slow down over time, until it plateaus at their full adult weight around their first birthday.

By the way, puppies tend to reach their adult height a few months before reaching their full-grown weight. So, if you notice that your Cavapoochon has already reached their full height, but still look a bit lanky, they’ll most likely fill out over the upcoming months.

Standard Cavapoochon Size

Standard Cavapoochons that have a Miniature Poodle parent usually fall within the mini and medium-sized dog category. The Standard Cavapoochon’s adult size ranges between 15 and 20 pounds. Therefore, we can expect Standard Cavapoochons to reach half their adult weight between 3.5 and 5 months old. They will then reach their full adult weight some time between 11 and 13 months of age.

If you’d like to calculate your Standard Cavapoochon’s full-grown size, here’s a simple formula for that:

Mini Cavapoochon Size

Mini Cavapoochons are the smaller variations of this adorable pup that are created with a Toy Poodle. They usually weigh between 12 and 15 pounds as adults. As they are smaller, they also tend to grow faster compared to larger Standard Cavapoochons. We can typically expect Mini Cavapoochons to reach half their adult weight at 3.5 months old. They will then reach their full-grown size between 7.5 and 11 months of age.
