  • How To Choose A Maltipoo Breeder In Texas

The Maltipoo is a cross between the ever so adorable Maltese and the highly intelligent Poodle. This mix uses either Toy or Miniature Poodles to achieve a small pocket-sized pal that’s low to non-shedding. Since both Malteses and Poodles are single-coated breeds, the Maltipoo is the perfect pet for people looking for a hypoallergenic companion that combines the best of both worlds.

Obviously, when planning to adopt a Maltipoo puppy in Texas, you’ll want to choose a breeder that puts the health and wellbeing of their puppies first. Puppies from responsible breeders are healthier and better-socialized than those from pet stores or puppy mills. So, it’s important to do your research before choosing a breeder. Here are our top tips to help you with that.

    Health Testing & Health Guarantees

When looking for a Maltipoo breeder in Texas, make sure to find one that health tests their dogs and provides health guarantees. Health testing is important because it helps to ensure that the parents of the puppies are free of genetic diseases. Some of the DNA tests that ethical breeders will do include hip and elbow dysplasia, von Willebrand’s Disease, heart diseases, and eye conditions.

Reputable breeders will also provide a health guarantee. This written agreement should state that the puppy is free of any genetic defects and illnesses. It will also specify what actions should be taken if the puppy does develop any genetic or congenital health problems. A good breeder will usually offer a one or two-year health guarantee, but some may even offer up to three years.

    Certifications & Affiliations

When looking for a breeder, you might also look into whether or not a breeder is certified and/or affiliated with established clubs or organizations committed to responsible breeding. Some of the most reputable ones include the American Kennel Club (AKC), Continental Kennel Club (CKC), and the Good Dog’s Responsible Breeding Program.

These clubs and organizations have strict breeding standards that members must adhere to. So, if a breeder is certified or affiliated with any of these groups, you can be sure that they are ethical and responsible.

Additionally, some breeders are also certified by either Puppy Culture or Badass Breeder programs that educate breeders on responsible breeding and whelping practices.

    Transparency & Communication

A good breeder will be open and transparent about their dogs, their breeding practices, and their puppies. They should be able to answer all of your questions without being evasive. If a breeder is not willing to answer your questions or show you photos or videos of their facility, it’s best to look elsewhere.

A reputable breeder will also keep you updated on your puppy’s progress, from birth until the time they are ready to go home. They should send you pictures and videos of your pup as they grow so that you can bond with them before you even meet in person.

    Reviews & Testimonials

When looking for a Maltipoo breeder in Texas, be sure to read reviews and testimonials from other people who have adopted puppies from the same breeder. A good breeder will have mostly positive reviews with only a few negative ones. And even the negative ones should be about minor things like the breeder being “too picky” about who they adopt their puppies to. If a breeder has mostly negative reviews, it’s best to avoid them. Be sure to look for reviews on Google, Facebook, Yelp, and here at Doodle Doods.

How Much Does It Cost To Adopt A Maltipoo In Texas?

Reputable breeders have Maltipoo puppies for sale in Texas for anywhere from $1,500 and up to $4,500. The exact price will depend on various factors, such as the breeder’s reputation, location, coat color, size, and more. It’s not uncommon for breeders to charge more for rare coat colors and patterns that are highly sought after.

It’s important to remember that a Maltipoo is a lifelong commitment and their price tag should be seen as an investment in your and your puppy’s future happiness. A responsible breeder will have put a lot of time, money, and effort into raising healthy and happy Maltipoo puppies. They’ll also be able to provide you with all the information you need about your new puppy, including health clearances, parent’s temperaments, and more.

If you come across a Maltipoo breeder in Texas that has puppies for sale for below $1,000, or simply seems sketchy, proceed with caution. It could be a sign that you’re dealing with a puppy mill or backyard breeder – both of which are notorious for selling sickly puppies with severe behavioral issues just for their own financial gain.
