When picking out a new puppy, one of your first questions is likely to be “how big will my Sheepadoodle get?” and that can be a tricky question to answer. As a hybrid breed, Sheepadoodle size can be a little more unpredictable than purebred dogs. Luckily though, you’re not the first person to want to know.

Through careful observation of multiple generations of Doodles, canine experts have compiled useful size guides to give us approximate numbers for Toy, Mini, Medium, Standard, and Giant varieties. Building on such knowledge, we have come up with a handy interactive puppy growth chart and calculator to help you predict your Sheepadoodle’s potential adult weight.

The Different Types of Sheepadoodles

For those still in the early stage of researching a possible new pet, a Sheepadoodle is a cross between an Old English Sheepdog (OES) and a Poodle. There’s no doubt that these guys are seriously cute, but there can be a lot of variation in their adult size and weight, as well as in their coat and furnishings (this is what we call the hair on their face).

Sizes

Such differences occur because of variations in the parent breeds. For instance, there are three distinct sizes of Poodle: Standard, Miniature, and Toy, and these are responsible for Standard, Mini/Medium, and Toy Sheepadoodles, respectively.

Generations

Beyond that, there are also F1, F1B, and F2, F2B type Sheepadoodles. These refer to which generation the puppy is from, or how far away they are from the breed’s so-called “parent dogs” (the OES and the Poodle).  

Let’s take a quick look at the Sheepadoodle generations and what each of them means:

With each generation, we can achieve more control over a Sheepadoodle’s size and other characteristics, such as their coat type and appearance. For instance, if a breeder’s goal is to achieve a smaller Mini Sheepadoodle, they can breed an F1b Sheepadoodle that has a Mini Sheepadoodle parent and a Miniature Poodle parent.

Sheepadoodle Size Charts & Growth Patterns

As with most dog breeds, Sheepadoodles have their fastest growth period in the first six months of their lives. During this time, they will get to around 50% of their adult weight.

The age at which a Sheepadoodle reaches its maximum height varies depending on the type. With a smaller dog, this will happen much sooner, at around 6-9 months. With a larger one, it could take up to 16 months. After this, they will continue to grow in girth and weight for a little longer.

Toy Sheepadoodles

Toy Sheepadoodles generally reach half their adult weight at around 3.5 and 5 months old. They will then attain their full adult weight between 11-13 months.

You can get a rough estimate of their potential adult weight at 18 weeks simply by taking what they weigh at that age and multiplying it by two.

Mini and Medium Sheepadoodles

Medium and Mini Sheepadoodles generally reach half their adult weight between 3.5 and 5 months old. They will then attain their full adult weight between 11-13 months.

You can get a rough estimate of their potential adult weight at 18 weeks simply by taking what they weigh at that age and multiplying it by two.

Standard Sheepadoodles

Standard Sheepadoodles generally reach half their adult weight between 4.5 and 6 months old. They will then attain their full adult weight between 12.5-16 months.

So, as you can see, the age at which a Sheepadoodle is considered full-grown has a lot to do with their size. This depends on whether they were bred from a Standard, Miniature, or Toy Poodle.

While Toy, Medium, and Mini Sheepadoodles will likely reach full maturity in the first year of their lives, the larger the dog, the longer this process will take. Your Standard Sheepadoodle may not get to their adult height and weight until they are closer to 1.5 years old.
