In this article, we’ll be discussing everything about the Whipoodle size and growth patterns. We’ll also be sharing with you our best kept secret for trying to predict your Whipoodle’s full-grown size. Let’s get started!

Whipoodle, Whipoo, or Whippadoodle – the Whippet-Poodle mix has so many nicknames to choose from. The Whipoodle is a relatively new and rare Doodle breed, but nonetheless absolutely adorable. They’re high energy dogs with extremely high intelligence levels, inheriting these traits from both the Whippet and Poodle parents. And thanks to the Poodle genes, Whipoodles tend to shed very little compared to their Whippet parents, making them a desirable choice for people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to adopt a Whippet.

Whipoodle Size Predictions: How Big Does A Whipoodle Get?

Like with any other Doodle breed, trying to predict a Whipoodle’s size requires some effort. As we’re combining two different breeds, the outcome can lean on either side. For this reason, it’s important that we first know a little bit more about the Whippets and Poodles…

The Whippet is a medium-sized breed that weighs between 25 and 40 pounds and has a height of 18 to 22 inches at the shoulder. The Poodle comes in three sizes, such as Toy, Miniature, and Standard Poodle. For the Whippet Poodle mix, the most common ones used are Standard and Miniature Poodles. Standards weigh between 38 and 70 pounds and stand 24 to 27 inches tall at the shoulder, whereas Minis weigh just around 10 to 20 pounds and have a height of 10 to 15 inches.

How Big Is A Full-Grown Whippet Poodle Mix?

Here are the average Whipoodle size predictions for Standard and Mini Whipoodle:

Mini WhipoodleStandard Whipoodle
Weight15-25 pounds25-45 pounds
Height*12-18 inches18-24 inches
Age at Full-Grown11-13 months11-13 months
*A dog’s height is measured from the withers, which is the highest part of their shoulder blades.

As we can see from the Whipoodle size chart above, they can weigh anywhere between 15 and 45 pounds once fully-grown. When a Miniature Poodle is used in the mix, it results in a Mini Whipoodle that tends to weigh between 15 and 25 pounds and has a height of 12 to 18 inches. Standard Whipoodles can weigh around 25 to 45 pounds and stand 18 to 24 inches tall at the shoulder.

It’s important to keep in mind that these numbers are not set in stone and a Whipoodle’s size can vary based on the height and weight of its parents. What’s more, if a Whippet is crossed to a larger Standard Poodle, their weight can easily go above 50 pounds. But for at least some predictability and consistency, breeders often choose to cross Whippets with Standard Poodles who are similar in size. The most common Standard Whipoodle size is usually around 35 pounds.

In addition to that, a Whipoodle’s size is also influenced by their generation, genetics, diet, or even gender. For instance, there might be a slight difference between male and female Whipoodles, especially larger ones. However, the difference isn’t usually as noticeable as with some other breeds.

F1 Vs F1b Vs F2b Whipoodle

One of the most important factors that determines the Whipoodle’s size is their generation. To put it simply, generations tell us how much of the Whipoodle’s genetic makeup consists of the Poodle and Whippet. If this all sounds way too confusing, here’s a simple cheat sheet you can follow:

Doodle Generations explained 2022

Since the Whipoodle is more of a rare Doodle breed, they are currently only bred as first-generation Doodles. However, we can expect to see more generations in the future. This will also mean that breeders have more control over the Whipoodle’s size, coat type, and other characteristics.

Whipoodle Size Charts & Growth Patterns

All dogs experience the fastest growth rates in the first 50% of their adult weight. This typically correlates to their first 6 months, give or take. After that, their growth and weight gain will gradually slow down over time, until it plateaus between their first and second birthday, depending on their size. Additionally, like other dogs, Whipoodles usually reach their full height sooner than they reach their full adult weight. By 10 months old, a Whipoodle has likely reached its full height, but will continue to gain a bit more weight over the next few months.

We’ve created an interactive Whipoodle size chart and growth calculator, which is a handy tool for predicting your Whipoodle’s full-grown size and tracking their weight into adulthood. Enter your Doodle’s type, predicted size, current weight in pounds, current age in weeks, and our calculator will reveal you the results!

Standard Whipoodle

Standard Whipoodles tend to reach half their adult weight between 3.5 and 5 months old. Between 11 and 13 months, we can expect a Standard Whipoodle to reach its full-grown size.

Mini Whipoodle

Similarly to the Standard Whipoodle, Minis usually reach half their adult weight between 3.5 and 5 months old and their full-grown size around 11 and 13 months old. However, we can expect smaller Whipoodles to grow faster than larger pups.

For both Mini and Standard Whipoodles, here’s a simple formula you can use to predict your puppy’s adult weight:
