But even though people are going absolutely crazy over these lovely Doods (us included..), it’s also important to note that it’s not all rainbows and butterflies when adopting a Doodle pup. We’re not going to lie, Poodle mixes are hard work when it comes to their coat care and grooming! Like other Doodles, Weimardoodles are prone to matting and they will still shed at least a little amount of hair. 

Fortunately, taking care of your Weimardoodle doesn’t have to be difficult or too time-consuming. As long as you have the right kind of grooming brush and stay on top of your dog’s grooming routine, you and your pup are all set. 

But what is the best brush for a Weimardoodle? Here are the two types of dog grooming brushes we recommend for these pooches. 

Slicker Brush

The absolute best brush for the Weimardoodle is a slicker brush. Slicker brushes are usually the most effective dog grooming brushes out there. Considering that Weimardoodles have thick, high-maintenance coats, you’ll definitely need something super effective and heavy-duty to prevent those common coat and skin problems.

A slicker brush is usually the best option for all Weimardoodle coat types. However, for wavy and straight-coated pups that aren’t extremely tangle-prone, a pin brush can be a great alternative. 

When it comes to your Weimardoodle’s hair length, the issue arises when your dog has a longer haircut, but the pins on the brush are rather small. As we mentioned earlier, you should always look for a brush with pins long enough to penetrate all layers of the fur.

How To Brush A Weimardoodle Properly?

Step #1

Before using any tools, you’ll first run your hands through your Weimardoodle’s coat to locate any knots and mats. Pay close attention to areas that are the most prone to matting. These include the areas behind the collar and harness, around the bum and tail area, and between the paw pads. 

Once you find some noticeably big knots, you’ll work on each of them individually with your metal comb. We recommend spraying a small amount of dog detangling spray on each of them before you start detangling them with your comb. This will help loosen up the knots much quicker. 

Detangling knots and mats can be quite uncomfortable for your pooch, so we recommend you use both of your hands in the process. With your left hand, hold the knot as close to the root of the hair as possible. This will take excess pressure off the root of the hair, reducing pain and discomfort. Meanwhile, start detangling the mat with the comb in your right hand. Always start detangling knots from the tip of the hair and only then start moving up towards the root of the hair as the knot loosens up. 

Step #2

After you’ve finished detangling knots and mats with your comb, you can start brushing the coat with a pin or slicker brush. To make the hair easier to manage, spray on dog detangling spray all over the coat, avoiding the eyes, nose, and mouth. 

When brushing the coat, start from the lowest point of the body. First you’ll brush the paws and feet, then the belly and bum area, and then the chest and neck. Then you’ll move onto the sides and tail, and finally brush the hair on the back. 

If you find it difficult to use a brush on smaller areas like the face, ears, and paws, use a metal comb on those areas instead.

As the last step, you can gently tease the coat with a comb or brush to make the hair more voluminous and fluffy. Lift the hair up in upward strokes, but don’t focus on one area too much, as it can make the hair tangled again.
