Swiss Doodle, the hybrid of hybrids, is a mix of two great Doodles – Aussiedoodle and Bernedoodle. As Swiss Doodles are a combination of two established Doodle breeds, they are often called Double Doodles. Swiss Doodle is also known as Australian Mountain Doodle or Aussie Mountain Doodle.
Thanks to the parent Doodles, Swiss Doodles inherit the best of the best from the three original parent breeds – Australian Shepherd, Bernese Mountain Dog, and Poodle. They have a sweet and calm nature, they’re playful, and get along well with children and other pets. What’s not to love about the Swiss Doodle?!
Swiss Doodle Size Predictions: How Big Do Swiss Doodles Get?
If you have your eyes set on a Swiss Doodle puppy, you’ve probably been trying to figure out what to expect when they grow up. Not only is this important to understand when considering your housing situation, this will also dictate your pup’s energy and nutrient requirements.
Swiss Doodle’s full-grown size can range anywhere from 30 to 60 pounds, and 19 to 25 inches in height. Further, usually Swiss Doodles are categorized in two sizes – mini / medium and standard.
So how big does a Swiss Doodle get? Here’s a typical Swiss Doodle size chart:
|Mini / Medium Swiss Doodle||Standard Swiss Doodle|
|Weight||30-40 pounds||50-60 pounds|
|Height||19-22 inches||23-25 inches|
|When Full-Grown?||11-13 months||12.5-16 months|

F1 vs F1b vs F2b Swiss Doodle
If you know a little bit about Doodles, you’ve probably heard of the Doodle generations. With older hybrid breeds we know that the mix includes a Poodle parent and another established breed parent. However, Swiss Doodle makes the equation slightly different.
Swiss Doodles are already multi-generation Doodles. To create a Swiss Doodle, there first has to be an Aussiedoodle (a hybrid mix of an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle), and a Bernedoodle (a hybrid mix of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle).
Let’s have a closer look at the possible Swiss Doodle generations:
|1st Parent||2nd Parent||% Aussiedoodle*||% Bernedoodle*|
|F1 Swiss Doodle (first-generation)||F1 Aussiedoodle||F1 Bernedoodle||50%||50%|
|F1B Swiss Doodle (first-generation backcross)||F1 Swiss Doodle||Poodle||25%||75%|
|F1BB Swiss Doodle (first-generation backcross backcross)||F1B Swiss Doodle||Poodle||12.5%||87.5%|
|F2 Swiss Doodle (second-generation)||F1 Swiss Doodle||F1 Swiss Doodle||50%||50%|
|F2B Swiss Doodle (second-generation backcross)||F1 Swiss Doodle||F1B Swiss Doodle||37.5%||62.5%|
|F2B Swiss Doodle (alternate cross)||F2 Swiss Doodle||Poodle||25%||75%|
|F3 / Multigen Swiss Doodle||F1B Swiss Doodle or higher||F1B Swiss Doodle or higher||Varies||Varies|
Even though Aussiedoodle and Bernedoodle both come from standard sized parent pups – Australian Shepherd and Bernese Mountain Dog – the Swiss Doodle can be backcrossed to a Miniature Poodle or a Mini Aussiedoodle or Mini Bernedoodle.
With Double Doodles, there’s an even bigger possibility to highlight one of the parent breeds in a generational mix. Therefore, there’s bigger control over a Swiss Doodle’s size.

After that, their growth gradually slows down until it plateaus by the time they’re around 12 months old.
