Are you stuck with trying to decide your Poochon’s next haircut or just looking for a more suitable look for the upcoming season? The Bichon Frise-Poodle mix can pull off numerous haircuts, all of them looking absolutely adorable in their own unique way. In this guide, you’ll find the most popular Poochon haircuts that their owners (and any passerby) swoon over. In addition to that, we’ll also be sharing a few Poochon grooming tips and tricks that we’ve learned from pro groomers. Let’s dive in!

Poochon Haircuts: Introduction

The Poochon has become an increasingly popular hybrid breed in recent years. They’re small, fluffy, have the most charming personality, and they’re great for people who prefer (or need!) a low to non-shedding companion.

Like other Doodles, Poochons combine the traits from both of their parental breeds – the Poodle and Bichon Frise. Both pups come with curly coats, so it’s not exactly difficult to predict how a Poochon puppy will look like. However, as the Bichon Frise does come with a double coat, some Poochons may inherit the shedding undercoat as well.

Nevertheless, even double-coated Poochons don’t shed nearly as much as other double-coated breeds. That’s all thanks to the curly coat that catches any loose dead hair. As a result, these pups don’t tend to leave a trail of mess behind them.

Of course, the haircut you choose for your Poochon can greatly affect your pup’s grooming requirements. In addition to that, you’ll also want to consider how comfortable a certain look is on your Dood, especially when switching between warmer and colder seasons.

It’s now time for Poochon grooming inspiration! These are the most popular Poochon haircut styles that you can try out on your Doodle. And if you don’t like it, rest assured that the hair will always grow back and you can try another style next time.

Different groomers may have different ideas of what the following types of cuts are. It’s best to show your groomer a picture of exactly what you want to avoid any misunderstandings. Poochon Lion Cut

The Poochon lion cut is something for those extra brave pups with big personalities (i.e. all Poochons). The hair is kept long on the head, neck, and chest. You can also leave poms on the tip of the tail and paws. Meanwhile, the hair is shaved quite short on the back of the body, giving your Poochon a true lion-like look with a distinctive mane.

Poochon Puppy Cut

The puppy cut is a simple Poochon haircut that anyone should have no trouble to achieve even on their first try. Different groomers and dog owners can have their own interpretation of the puppy cut.

With the puppy cut, the hair is usually kept at the same length throughout the body. However, some people prefer to keep the hair on the face, ears, and tail slightly longer compared to the rest of the body. Overall, the puppy cut gives your Dood a fluffy look and you can opt for either a shorter or a longer trim.

Poochon Teddy Bear Cut

A popular choice amongst smaller and larger Doodles is the teddy bear cut. The Poochon teddy bear cut will give your pup that true teddy-bear look. So cute that you can’t take your eyes off them!

Although it’s similar to the puppy cut, it’s slightly more advanced and requires a little bit more technique. Similarly, the hair is kept shorter on the body. However, the hair on the face and ears is kept longer and more rounded.

Poochon Kennel Cut

And last, but not least, we have the kennel cut. This is again a simpler Poochon haircut that isn’t typically very hard to achieve. The hair is kept at a uniform shorter length throughout the body, face, and ears.

The kennel cut is the perfect look for very hot summer months to keep your pup cool and comfy. It’s also a great option if you don’t have that much time to spare on brushing.

Poochon Grooming: Tools You Absolutely Need To Groom Your Poochon At Home

Tool #1: Brush

Regardless if you choose to groom your Poochon at home or take them to a professional groomer, you’ll always need a good quality, sturdy slicker or pin brush to keep that curly and textured coat healthy and looking gorgeous.

The main focus is on getting rid of any knots and tangles to prevent matting – something that curly-haired Poochons are especially prone to. In addition to a good brush, you’ll also have to follow proper technique. To really get through all lengths of the hair, start from the paws and feet and move your way up the dog’s body.

In this guide, we’ve reviewed the best brushes for Yorkiepoos, but these also work equally good on Poochons.

Tool #2: Comb

Now that you’re all set with a good brush, you should also invest in a high quality, sturdy, and durable metal or steel comb. Before you jump in with a brush, you should run through your pup’s hair with your fingers and feel if there are any tangles hidden in the fur. If so, gently work on them with the comb beforehand.

You can also use a comb to target those delicate and tricky areas like the face, ears, and paws.

Tool #3: Dog Clippers

If you’ve decided to give your Poochon haircuts at home, be sure to invest in a quality set of dog clippers. These will get the job done super quickly so you won’t have to scissor trim the whole body.

Here we’ve reviewed our favorite dog clippers that will help you get the job done with ease.

Tool #4: Scissors

In addition to dog clippers, you’ll also be needing a pair of dog scissors. Opt for bull nose a.k.a. safety scissors that have rounded tips so you won’t accidentally hurt your pup during the process.

In this article, you’ll find our recommendations on the best dog grooming scissors and thinning shears.

Tool #5: Thinning Shears

Thinning shears completely transform the end result of Poochon haircuts. These work their magic by blending in the different lengths of hair. You’ll never have to worry about your puppy having a choppy haircut ever again.

Tool #6: Detangler Spray

Dog detangler sprays are one of the best kept secrets of professional groomers and Doodle owners. Just spray a little bit of dog-safe detangler spray on your pup’s fur before you go in with your comb and brush. Trust us, it does wonders and saves you a lot of time and trouble when brushing through that stubborn hair.

Here you’ll find our favorite dog detangler sprays that pro groomers and Doodle owners recommend.

Tool #7: Shampoo

Of course, we cannot forget a good dog shampoo that will get your pup squeaky clean while keeping their coat and skin healthy. Here’s our ultimate guide on the best dog shampoos for various purposes and skin conditions.

But before you wash your Poochon, make sure you’ve thoroughly brushed their hair and gotten rid of any knots and tangles. Our in-depth guide on How To Bathe A Doodle has all the information, tips, and tricks you’ll need.

Tool #8: Nail Clippers

Like us humans, Poochons need to get their nails trimmed to prevent overgrown nails, injury, and infections. You can opt for either dog nail clippers or a dog nail grinder, whichever you prefer.

Be sure to check out our article on How To Trim Dog Nails with tons of FAQs, step-by-step guide, and product recommendations.

Tool #9: Ear Cleaning Products

Poochons are prone to ear infections due to restricted airflow, which in turn can cause bacterial overgrowth. This is especially common if you don’t dry your dog’s ears after bathtime or don’t clean them after going for a swim.

In this guide, we discuss everything about Doodle ear infections, symptoms, treatments, prevention, and recommend some of the best vet-approved ear cleaning products.

Also, don’t forget to clean your Poochon’s eyes from eye boogers and gunk, as it can become smelly and stain the fur around the eyes. In this guide, we discuss tear stains and how to get rid of them.

Tool #10: Grooming Table

Although some might think that a grooming table is a bit of a stretch, it’s actually a super useful and helpful tool in your grooming arsenal. Opt for a dog grooming table that comes with an adjustable arm to keep your pup safe. Not only does it act as a safety feature, it also saves you from uncomfortable back pain and lets you use both hands while grooming.

You can either purchase a grooming table or save some money by building your own DIY grooming table
